01. Ring
Flashbacks of a desperate third captain and his strangled cries ringing throughout his ears had been the cause of Aizen’s defeat; not Ichigo’s sword.

02. Hero
Gin had decided, as he turned his back on the Soul Society with Aizen and Tousen, that he did not wish to be a hero; they often fail.

03. Memory
Those fools were all corroding and disintegrating into fine dust; like them.

04. Box
As Gin helped strip his commander of his captain’s hiori, Aizen concluded that the best of presents were not boxed and wrapped.

05. Run
And they were outlaws; together.

06. Hurricane
In a pool of tossed and tangled blankets, Gin fell prey to corrupting fingertips.

07. Wings
And as betrayal sank deep, deep into both their veins, Aizen gave Ichimaru his thanks and then clipped his understudy’s wings with a rip of his bones from flesh.

08. Cold
Even with Aizen’s arms wrapped around him as they slept, the call of his memories kept his body chilled.

09. Red
The god rather adored the third captain’s eyes: red, the color of pain; red, the color of love.

10. Drink
Gin found Aizen’s obsession with tea rather comical.

11. Midnight
They always met in silence and the cover of night.

12. Temptation
Gin’s hidden agendas always threatened at the tip of his tongue whenever his eyes met unnatural brown orbs.

13. View
Aizen’s visions of the heavens always included Gin at his side.

14. Music
And as Aizen’s sword pierced his flesh and called forth death, Gin could hear the softest of lullabies.

15. Silk
Aizen appeared to be delicate, but Gin’s bruised skin was proof that the king of Las Noches was anything but.

16. Cover
And Gin lied for him.

17. Promise
No words were spoken as bloody palms pressed together in a promise of even more bloodshed and destruction.

18. Dream
He knew he’d never walk in heaven as a god with his captain, but he could have his fantasies.

19. Candle
Neither man much valued life and it’s fragility; it was too much like a withering candle in the heart of a windstorm.

20. Talent
They were both flawless liars.

21. Silence
Most often they would stand beside each other and were content to simply be.

22. Journey
Underneath it all they were both so, so tired.

23. Fire
Aizen’s stares from across a room could sear his flesh with much more fury than any hopeless flame.

24. Strength
He would continue without Gin; he had to.

25. Mask
He knew who his silver-haired lover really imagined whenever they were defenseless and sweat-soaked; and it was never, ever him.

26. Ice
No matter what their justifications were, they were both really only cold-blooded murderers.

27. Fall
It was so easy to follow those gentle smiles and coffee brown eyes.

28. Forgotten
Twenty thousand years of imprisonment and the only memory that had survived was Gin’s.

29. Dance
Skirting around the truth and planting their lies was an intricate, and hazardous, dance.

30. Body
Aizen was a greedy soul; he wished for far more than just Gin’s flesh and pants of completion.

31. Sacred
Secretly, Gin worshipped Sosuke.

32. Farewells
Aizen’s sword said what his lips could not-- goodbye.

33. World
Gin was everything.

34. Formal
“Fear is necessary for evolution: the fear that one could be annihilated at any moment, thank you, Gin-”, that's what Aizen had said, but the hidden words trapped inside his lie actually murmured, ‘Farewell, my friend’.

35. Fever
Scorching and hungry, they loved.

36. Laugh
Gin found everything, even loss, hilarious.

37. Lies
Aizen held no regrets.

38. Forever
They would suffer for their sins; branded as traitors and scorned as deviants, wearing the same shame and lusty ambition.

39. Overwhelmed
Pretending wasn’t nearly as fun as Gin remembered.

40. Whisper
And as Gin left his leader’s side, he touched Aizen’s bleeding chest and quietly wished aloud: “Forgive me.”

41. Wait
Patience was Ichimaru’s only virtue; Aizen had none.

42. Talk
Aizen found solace in only the sound of Gin’s voice.

43. Search
While imprisoned Aizen Sosuke always tried to piece his fading memories of Gin back together again; oh how he missed that creeping smile.

44. Hope
Death would deliver an eternal peace that both men could only dream of.

45. Eclipse
She would always hold Gin’s heart; Aizen despised her.

46. Gravity
Gin was always spinning within his hold.

47. Highway
They both preferred the road less traveled; the next day they abandoned the Soul Society, and all their mindless followers.

48. Unknown
How long would they have before Gin left?

49. Lock
Hidden agendas were the only things that truly kept them separated.

50. Breathe
Breathing was the only time the absence of Gin truly hurt; only then.

perfect. i've been very weary of this couple since the whole aizen killing gin incident, but they were my favorite for the longest time before that happened. this brought me back with a new perspective.

I understand that feeling. I knew it was going to happen. It was only a matter of time. Did I want it to happen? Oh heck no. But did I figure it, with the way kubo progresses his characters/needs to have the good guys win? yeah.

I wanted to put a different spin to it. I really feel like Aizen genuinelly cared for Gin, and vice versa. so I wanted to portray the after effects and everything else. and I really don't think the loss of focus/emotional outrage Aizen portrayed at the end of all of it had to do with Ichigo at all. I really think it all started with Gin, who was the first to provoke any kind of anger from Aizen. I found it rather sad, honestly.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. =)

I can only hope to emulate the way you portray Aizen and Gin's relationship in my WIP-AU-- this piece just summarizes their (however loosely bound and interpreted) relationship for me, ringing so positively true in every line.

Certain points need immediate acclaim: Gin's wish to not be a hero, the color of his eyes (for what is the color of real love, but red?), the truth (so accepted in fanon but delivered so elegantly here) beneath their elegance and delicateness, Aizen's greed, Gin's only virtue, and the /spinning/-- I am caught so willingly by that phrase, if only because it depicts completely what I've been aiming for in my current AU-fic.

I'm also compelled to note Aizen's outright dislike of Ran, and even as I questioned Gin's motives being only for her sake, it drives the distance between them deliciously.

And finally, "Breathe". I've always wondered if it was fair to describe their relationship as a romance, and this line only serves to draw even more romantic notions in my head.

Thank you for this magnificent piece. I thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that, if I may be so bold, and if you were not adverse to the idea, I would request the opportunity to expand or weave several notions and lines from this piece into my own writings, of course only with your permission and then with proper credits.

I want to start by saying this has to be one of the best, if not the best, comments I have ever received. It's so sweet and deep. I really respect that and admire you for it. Thank you. I can't even begin to express my appreciation for this.

I've always felt like Gin and Aizen had a special relationship...be it as allies, friends, or of the romantic nature. I've always viewed them as much more than friends but perhaps not yet defined past that? It really struck a major highlight with me when Gin evoked an absolute rage/hurt from Aizen that no one else had previously done (when he poisoned Aizen and ran...the yell/cursing/pain from Aizen was more than evident, in my honest opinion).

And as much as he remains stoic and methodic in all he does/says, I always kind of had this feeling that Aizen wasn't too fond of Rangiku. I think he knew what the gist of Gin's passions were and he knew that she was the cause of everything: their beginning, their middle, and their end. It's sad, really. Unrequitted in so many ways. But I also feel like Gin had a respect/general understanding of Aizen that he hadn't expected to gain in his plot to avenge his lovely Rangiku. It's a toxic and beautiul relationship whatever angle you look at it from.

Again, thank you. Honestly, you are so very kind and I'm glad you understood just what I was aiming for.

And you may absolutely do that (proper credits would be nice). I see no harm in finding inspiration from something else. Feel free to quote/use what you want. I look forward to seeing what you come up with, my fellow writer.

:) I couldn't stop myself- I admire this piece of yours greatly, and I just had to tell you so, in the only way I knew how.

Exactly-- whether it's romantic or platonic, or even psychotic, the thing is that they're /involved/ with each other, which is more than one can say regarding either of them and their interactions with other people, barring Rangiku on Gin's side. They have a relationship that could have, if aligned the right way, transcended the 'good/evil' boundaries set up in BLEACH. The ensemble dark horse or the anti-villain, you could say. Aizen's reaction to Gin's attack was ultimately a driving point to me, as no one else had managed that-- and yes, the thing is that he actually /caused Aizen pain/. Not just physical pain, but emotional pain, and that's an achievement that not many can own up to, and one that calls for a deep niche in Aizen's body of thought.

Unrequited love has always been a penchant of mine, and I used to turn a blind eye to Gin's regard for Rangiku, but after a while I embraced it, and I grew to favor the pairing so much more for all the things it stood for: the tenebruous will of a man who loves, and the patience and dedication to goals that would otherwise have ended within a moment of self-doubt or uncertainty. Aizen and Gin didn't have any of that, and I greatly admired that forward vision of theirs. Toxic and beautiful-- quite an apt description, really.

You are more than welcome-- and this has little to do with kindness, and all to do with the fact that I wanted to recognize and laud such a masterfully written piece. The point is driven home, understood, and cherished.

I must apologize for the delay of this reply, as college work has bogged me down. Similarly, I'm not able to begin writing out the ideas your piece inspired in me, but rest assured that proper credits will be given. Again, I thank you for your time, and your sharing of this magnificent piece.
